well seemed to have stirred things up here a bit. I dont live in the city, it will be mostly motorway. I get 23mpg out of my Durango (also LPG converted) on a run, or as we say here in the UK somewhere near 28mpg if you use Imperial Gallons, so the V6 might do the same. The power loss between petrol and LPG is about 10%, which is why people tend to do the conversion. As said before, it wont be a workhorse, just a means to get from A to B. Need ground clearance. Already trashed a Peugeot Partner, tore the sump off it.

Well a stock 2wd ram will have about the same ground clearance as a durango so you won't be gaining much there. If the V6 is what's in your price range then go for it. Or wait for one of the new, smaller trucks with the diesels to make their way over there and then run biodiesel.

If I lived over there I'd definatly seek out a diesel hilux 4x4. Nice to see someone over there wanting a dodge.

In a real world I would agree, but Diesel is the most expensive fuel here to buy, followed by petrol then Autogas, so the best combination is petrol/autogas, as it makes it affordable to run daily, petrol only would be very expensive at £6+ a gallon, and diesel is almost £7 per gallon, autogas is about £3.30 per gallon equivalent. and a Cummins diesel is no better on fuel than petrol.

Or you could convert the Diesel over to Bio-Diesel....?

There's a number of options... but if you really need ground clearance and don't need to tow anything, I would just pick up a smaller truck like a Toyota with a 4-cylinder and put a lift kit on it. Then you've got a truck that will last you 300k miles and not kill your wallet...

Just a thought.

I thought I might chime in here. I have an 04 Ram 1500, 3.7 liter 6 cyl, 5 speed Quad cab short bed (reg gasoline) with 190,000 miles on it. I bought it brand new because I needed a truck for light construction work and as a salesman, I knew I'd be putting a lot of miles on it for my job. The light construction work I mentioned was the hundred year old house my wife and I bought 10 years ago. The house was a disaster and I literally took it down to the sticks and rebuild it top to bottom. The truck handled everything I needed it for with ease. Wood, sheetrock, driveway stone, fill dirt, you name it, it hauled it. Far as work, I do a lot of highway driving and its comfortable and decent on gas. Far as the family, I have two girls and the truck is plenty comfortable for all of us. We also use it to go camping a lot and haul our dirt bikes and quads. Mechanically I've had very few problems. Other than regular maintenance, I've had to replace the heater/ac blower motor, replace the clutch and replace the fuel pump. I've done all the repairs personally and spent less than $700.00. The one odd quirk I ran into is for a couple months the truck developed an odd electrical problem that made the gauges go crazy from time to time. That problem actually went away by itself although I did pull all the wiring harnesses and apply dielectric grease to the connections. I have no idea if that helped it but the problem seemed to go away by itself. All in all, I love this truck and got every single penny out of it and then some. Further, not once have I ever regretted the V6. I can't say anything about using LPG but I can say that for regular gasoline this has been the most reliable set of wheels I've ever owned by far and I've had Lincolns, Cadillacs, VW, Corvette, Ford Van, even had an IH Scout. I LOVE this truck. BTW, my wife has an 04 Exterra and I only have good things to say about that as well. Not one single major repair for that either.

Well, her that must be obeyed has now said "NO WAY", so it looks like i am going to have to get a normal 4X4 something like a Shogun.......Shame as it's still advertised for £6,700, reckon I could get a grand off the asking price, might have even thought of an engine swap from the Durango
