Hard shifting with exhaust brake on

Hi, I have a 2008 Dodge 2500 with the 6.7L cummins. I have noticed that on some occasions the truck seems to shift hard when I let off the gas pedal, and the exhaust brake is activated. Not sure what this is due to, but it seems to happen more when the engine is cold. Anybody have any ideas what might be going on here? Thanks.
