I want more horse power though so I take it that dirty dog's method is the best way? I have to admit, I don't really know what you meant by all that or if I could even do it, but I obviously have the 250.00 to purchase the K&N so if its cheaper than that and guarantees me more horsepower then I'd like to learn more.
BFI is an overpriced, oversized tube that has an open airfilter design which sucks hot engine air, PLUS, Lance the 2nd owner of the company stole everyones money and ran off. So, the BFI intake is dead in the water.
Varaam. Nice but pricey also. I think Varaam is more bang for the buck over BFI and I'm Much rather own a Varaam!

OP, if you bought the K&N and it's on it's way and you didn't spend $300 on it, throw it on. I think most of those are around the $200mark??
Just to give you an idea, the Panel filters cost $60, and the Intake tube I have costs $100, so you have a whole kit for not much more. I was just lucky enough to find a used tube on Ebay for $40 a while back.

Volant makes a nice cai that has a scoop like varaam and they also have a scoop for the dayton/srt hoods plus you can also get a 100000 mile dry filter with it

RPM at a given speed is governed by the drive train. The intake won't change that.

So I installed the CAI and it seemed to make a little difference. I get a little quicker response when I step on the gas but the most noticeable thing is the sound. It doesn't make any difference at idle but when you step on the gas and get up around 3k rpm it sounds much different, better in my opinion like a turbo or something lol. The only problem is I can hear a noise when i barely touch the gas to keep it at an idle speed, the closest thing i can compare it to is just a small rattle but loud enough to notice it. Any thoughts? I looked up noises and someone said it could possibly be the idle air control but the sound the person was hearing was more of a "blow dryer humming sound" this could be the same noise but I'm not sure Also I didn't have any problems before I switched the CAI. I checked all the connections and they seem pretty tight.

On a different note I have the old cold air intake system in the garage if anybodies looking for a setup.

5.7L's dont have a separate IAC. It's all part of the T/B.

The noise very well could have been there before and you didn't hear it for 2 reasons...
1)Old air intake muffles a lot of sound that would come from inside the top end part of the engine.
2) Your listening ears weren't on before.

It's also possible there is something from the install that is rattling/touching something.
Are you sure it's not detonation? How about a pulley? Exhaust manifold heat shield?

At least your happy with it overall. That's the biggest thing.
