benefits of cold air intake change
I am ordering a new K&N cold intake for my 05 dodge ram daytona 1500. I am wondering what kind of performance changes can I expect to see? I have heard that it will give me more power and I have heard mixed things about it giving you more gas mileage. What parts are true? By the way the actual intake is a K&N 77 Series polished Metal Intake Kit Part Number77-1533KP. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Well, i just stuck the panel filter in the stock OEM box and added an airraid intake tube to get rid of the stock perforated tubing and Hemi Hat.
Your not going to notice huge gains. Actually, probably not much of a gain with just a CAI alone.
It'll work in conjunction with an exhaust and a proper tune. The amount of money they get for CAI's, there's better mods for the money.
Just my .02

Yep the MAP sensors of our trucks will always adjust the air intake to make the majority of CAIs useless. The only time you'll see gains are at WOT and only on a dyno as you'll only make around 5hp which isn't noticeable. The best route is DirtyDogs method
I have the K&N CAI and besides looking cool and the sound when I punch it, it does very little IMO. If it does do something, it is not very noticeable. MPG and power feel about the same. But it is easier to see and do thing on top of the engine without the hemi hat in the way.
When I installed my k&n intake my 03 single cab 3.7 seemed to have better throttle response and it dropped 300rpms at cruising speed. Gained 1 to 1.5 mpg but also have dual exhaust and run shell mid grade gas in it.

I'm kinda new at this so i didn't understand a couple of the Initials or whatever you call them lol. I know CAI is cold air intake, but what is WOT. I think that BFI is the name of a certain CAI but if not what is that? But so far I think I should just send this thing back as soon as I get it from the feed back I'm getting. I want more horse power though so I take it that dirty dog's method is the best way? I have to admit, I don't really know what you meant by all that or if I could even do it, but I obviously have the 250.00 to purchase the K&N so if its cheaper than that and guarantees me more horsepower then I'd like to learn more.
It's really up to you. On a Daytona like yours if you combine the CAI with the exhaust and a tuner then it could possibly give you some gains but you'll feel the gains from the tuner more then the CAI. If you only stick to bolt on mods then the price of a CAI is basically worthless and you'd get the same thing for a fraction of the price doing what DirtyDog did. I wish I had known that before tearing apart my old intake.
