Will a compression test or a leakdown test work properly if my timing is off even 1 tooth???

this is kinda hard to explain

if your right side is on and compression is + or - 20% of 160 and the left side is off a little timing I would say maybe 140 what you are looking for also is if you have one that is cylinder that is holding compression but not as good as the rest then you do cylinder leakage to determine if it is valves or worm piston rings you will get some blow by that is normal but the valves should hold for the most part

a valve that is bent just ever so slightly it might run and sound ok but be real hard to start because it doesn't have the compression it needs

also when you are cranking it over if you hear s swoosh noise coming from the intake or exhaust pipe when turning it over that's a good indication of a bent valve

Ok so i did the leakdown test and pulled the head sure enough bent valves. I ordered the valves from Napa and will have them tomorrow along with new valve seals and head gasket. I was reading on the forums that I can reuse the head bolts as they are non TTY.

I was a little concerned with the other side, the leak down tester stated 60% loss on the drivers side that had no chain slippage. Harbor Freight tester.

I also read that you are supposed to use a special tool to remove the head I do not really understand this. Is this necessary? What about when reinstalling?

I'm assuming when I replace the lifters in this head and redo timing i will be back in business, hopefully.
