Default EGR valve replacement

My trucks a 2006 5.7 hemi qc 1500. Anyways its got 80,000 kms. Check engine light came on. Got a auto parts store to do a free scan and got P1404. Bieng theres three or 4 different possible causes I took a stab in the dark and replaced the egr valve. Got raped a lil bit at the dealer for a oem part but id rather pay more for a made in usa part than some cheap chinese knockoff, but Ill be dammed if im gonna pay a stealership to charge me ridiculous shop rates and charge for diagnostics. I did it myself in the cold wind lost some skin on my knuckles dropped a few fbombs and got er done. (Those bolts arent the greatest to get at.) Reset the ecu and fired her up n no check engine light and truck idles and runs great.

What im wondering is why is did this egr failing premature Arent these parts suppossed to be good for say 160,000 kms?? Whats your guys experience, is this a common thing to go on these trucks?

Mine went at around 70,000kms or so about a year ago but with age ('04 here), these things are prone to buildup, corrosion etc. Some guys will clean them and all that stuff but if I'm taking the time to take it out, I'm gonna spend the $70 to buy a new one and not worry about it for another 8 years. My powertrain warranty was still good at that time due to low mileage but the egr valve itself is not part of the warranty. Only the controls and the other stuff that goes with it. You shouldn't have to pay for diagnostics tho, most good parts store will read codes for free.

No part is good for any amount of miles. It could be a dead part from 10 miles to 1000 to 100,000.

And chances are the oem part you bought was probably made in the same $hiity chinese factory as the knock off.

I replaced mine in 2011 with just under 95,000 on it. Same deal through a code. Was quoted 2 to 3 hundred bucks to do it. Did it myself in a hour or so.
