Default 4.7 timing chain

I bought my 02 1500 2wd qc back in April of 2012 it had 211000 miles, I had to replace the motor in August of 2012 due to the timing chain going out around 231000 miles. We replaced the motor with another 4.7 with 112000 miles, now this motor is starting to show the same signs of it timing chain going out, 263000 miles now. Do these motors always have this problem? When this timing chain goes out should I think about replacing with a different motor or another 4.7? Or is there a way to prevent the timing chain from going out, maybe a different oil or something?

From what I've read, a quarter-million miles is about the limit for a timing chain. You got 231K from the first one and either 151K or 260K from the second. Since you don't know how the second motor was treated, you may be in the ball park all 'round. Perhaps it's time to trade.

you can not STOP use-age unless you stop using..

be glad you do not have a timing belt.. most MUST be replaced every 90,000 miles.. and some every 60,000 miles.

replace the timing chain/gears and drive on....

engine parts are just like tires, brakes, spark plugs ... if you use it. you need to replace them sometime.

and I remember when is was almost imposable to go past 150,000 on a engine. without a rebuild.
I also remember engines not having oil filters....

So should I rebuild the motor or just the timing chain, or would it be better to just drop in a 318

this engine has 263,000 miles?? if so. find another used 4.7.

changing to another size engine is way more work because of computer issues.

Your still in the same boat. Any motor with that many miles will need parts replaced. A 5.7 maybe an easier swap, since these trucks come with them

The cheapest and easiest way to go would be to Change the chains now esp. if your not having any other problem's. If you can do it yourself your only look at like 200-300 bucks.these motors a good for about 100 to 150,000 miles and then you need to start taking a good look at the timing chain and head gasket.
