Default Programming Key Fob

"Hi everybody!" haha, just saw that and had to use it. Well anyway....was wondering if anyone could give me some assistance with this issue I am having. I purchased a second hand 2004 Ram 1500 SLT Texas edition back in December. When I got it, the lot only had 1 key for it and no fobs. I came up with a key fob (correct p/n for the truck) and went over to the dealership since I do not have a DRBIII. They could not get it to program, and said the fob is the correct one for the truck, and that the signal coming from the fob is good. According to alldata, the transponder/reciever is in the instrument cluster. From alldata, is looks like the reciever is fed off the same fuse as the I/C, and I am not having any other issues with any accessories or anything. Was wondering if anyone has any idea what I can look for?? Now, I know that the stock radio was on the PCI bus, and I installed a aftermarket radio because the cd changer was not working......any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

I didn't know that used Key Fobs for the Sentry II could be programmed to another car, but maybe that's just the key versions? Is that what you have?

You shouldn't have a problem with that style. i really don't know how to help you.

If I were you, I'd get a blank Sentry key online $25, have it cut(old school trace style preferably, not a computerized one) and have it programmed when you have the Fob programmed.
Once you have 2 working keys, and one working Fob, you can do everything yourself!

Its not the key I am having an issue with. The truck starts and runs fine. It is the fact that the truck is not seeing a signal coming from the remote for the keyless entry. But the remote is sending a signal out the dealership told me. They must have a tester there.

I think you misunderstood me....
I understand you have a perfect working key, but since your paying the dealer to program a Fob, why not have them program you a 2nd key while they are at it? Once you have 2 working keys, you can program a 3rd yourself without the dealer. IF you lose your only key, your going to incur significant charges. I was trying to get you ahead with 2 keys.
Also, once you have a working Fob, you can program another yourself without the dealer. This is why i said 2 keys and 1 programmed Fob will allow you to do anything you want without the dealer.

If the truck is not reading the signal, then it is not programmed. I am not sure what the procedure is but aybe try PM;ing TNtech from the 4th Gen area as he is a Certified Dodge Tech with knowledge of the procedure and can prob point you in the right direction.

If you have a working fob, you can add another (fob ONLY, not a sentry key). You don't need the dealer. I've done it several times. The procedure is in your O/M. The truck learns the fob, the fob doesn't learn the truck.

Hey Turbo. This is the from the Customer settings in the manual. If it doesn't work, you either have a bad/incorrect fob or you may need someone with a DRBIII to do it.

STANDARD PROCEDURE - RKE TRANSMITTER PROGRAMING

New Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitters can be programed using the DRB IIIŽ scan tool and the proper Diagnostic Procedures manual. The DRB IIIŽ scan tool can provide confirmation that the PCI data bus is functional, and that all of the electronic modules are sending and receiving the proper messages on the PCI data bus.

The following procedure can be used as long as one programmed transmitter is available:

NOTE: When entering program mode using that programmed fob, ALL currently programmed fobs will be erased and they will have to be reprogrammed for the vehicle. If program mode is entered and no action is performed, the previously programmed fobs will continue to function.

  1. Enter the vehicle and close all doors.
  2. Fasten the seat belt (this will cancel the seat belt chime). Turn the ignition to the RUN position.
  3. Press and hold the UNLOCK button on a programmed transmitter for 4 to 10 seconds. Within the 4 to 10 seconds with the UNLOCK button still depressed, press the PANIC button for one second. When a single chime is heard, release both buttons. The chime indicates the system is in program mode.
  4. Press and release both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on a fob to be programmed. A single chime will be heard, this indicates the fob has been recognized.
  5. Press and release any button on the same fob. A single chime will be heard, this indicates the fob has been programmed.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for up to a total of 4 fobs.
  7. Turn the ignition OFF.
  8. Turn the ignition ON or wait 60 seconds. The vehicle will remain in program mode for up to 60 seconds from when the original chime (step 3) was heard. After 60 seconds, all programmed transmitters will function normally.

Check the FCC numbers on the backs of the fob. If they don't match, you have the wrong fob.
