Default 2002 5.9 idle issue

Just wanted to ask if anyone has experienced same problems. On inital start up in the morning the 5.9 idles rough for the first minute or so. New Bosh wires cap and rotor. New plugs, new coil , new pcv valve . Fuel pressure checks okay. Someone said I needed to run a can of combustion chamber cleaner thru it. Also someone said I needed to clean IAc solenoid in area of the intake. Any suggestions, this thing is driving me crazy 9 mpg on a good day downhill with a tail wind.

How many miles? I'd start by taking the throttle body off and cleaning it up really well, this includes the IAC pintle. I'd also check the MAP sensor and the biggie on this motor is a leaking manifold gasket. You can venture over to the 2nd generation and see what they say as they have more experience with the 5.9L since 2002 was the only year it was in the 3rd Gen truck.

Also, did it idle like this before/after the wires, cap and rotor change?

Thanks for your reply:
The whole problem started with a stumble when you first start the thing in the morning. This eventually got so bad that I would get a code (multiple misfire). After looking in the owners book I see that it could be the wires or plugs. I did the good wires , cap rotor, new coil and new plugs. It ran great for a short while and now is starting the misfire in the morning again. Hate to keep buying stuff but looks lik it could be one of many many things. O2 sensor $138.00 ea ? Intake issue mega $ Bought this low mileage truck so I didn't have to work on one all the time. Have done nothing but work on this Dodge since day one. Scares me because the chat rooms are full of evil demons with these trucks Tranny woes, electrical troubles, poor fuel mileage, wheel bearing faults, rear end issues. Are there any good items about this thing? I haven't found ANY yet

Thanks

Mark

I'd look at the manifold gasket leaking given the symptoms you gave me. The trannies are rather good, just be sure to adjust the bands on them every 30K miles or so. Rear ends had some problems with the C clips not being fastened all the way and causing some trouble. Other than that they are really good trucks. You will find issues with almost any truck if you talk to enough people. I had a 2004 Ford Explorer that had the tranny worked on twice, the rear end rebuild twice, the brake booster and master cylinder replaced, water leaking, etc. Sometimes the stars are aligned against you so to say.

Thanks for the reply,
I am sure your right, have friends at various dealers and they say there are issues with all brands. Just venting I guess, cause I have had issues with this truck. Noticed your Busch series racer title.. Are you a fan or a racer? I have a small connection with Nascar, my cousin drives for Darrell Waltrip in the truck series #17 David Reutimann. he is from Zephyrhills also my home town. He tells me I need to be driving one of them darn Yotas. I tell them they cost to much and mine aren't free like his.

Thanks for the info
