Default Issues with 4WD

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me with an issue with my 4WD. First, I have a 2006 Ram 1500 TRX 5.7L. Last week I had my truck in 4WD for the snow and parked it in driveway. When I hopped back in and backed out the truck started jumping. I took it out of 4WD and moved forward. It did the same thing. Put the truck in neutral switched to 4WD, 4WD low, back to 4WD, then to 2WD... it was fine. Now this week, same thing... backed out while in 4WD and the truck didn't want to go and started bucking. Anyone know what this could be? Do I need a new transfer box?

Does the truck do it in 4wd and 2wd? Just in reverse or forward also. Are there any sounds? Feel like it's the front, middle, or rear?

It only does it in 4WD. Reverse starts to feel like the parking brake is on then bucks. Going forward just bucks. If I put it back into 2wd, it does it for a bit until I do the 4wd, 4wd low, 4wd, 2wd steps... I haven't heard a noise but it feels like its the front...

have you checked your transmission fluid level...?

When was the last time you had your trans fluid changed?

Did you hear any clunks or loud bangs?

Trans fluid is ok. Only had the truck since Oct 2012. So not sure on trans change. No clucks or bangs.

Something is binding up. I would jack up the front and spin each wheel to see if you notice something.

When you were backing up were the front wheels pointed straight, or did you have the wheel turned?

might want to put it in 2wd when you park. mine does the same thing when I park it at work and forgot to take out of 4wd, then go to leave, crank hard left to isle and it bucks hard enough to nearly stall.
Doh---dumbass, you forgot to take out of 4wd-------I'm cussing myself out!

66three83 -- straight at first but the bucking didn't start until I started turning.

Gone fishin -- Exactly! Thats what it does and I yell at myself about that. But now I am worried I f-ed something up with my 4wd and afraid to use it.

I knew it!! You felt the driveline binding because you were turning in 4 hi. Unless you are on a slippery surface, you will feel this when you turn. The reason you couldn't get it out of 4hi, is because it sometimes takes more than a few feet of movement to disengage. Especially if the drivetrain is in a bound up state. I would try engaging and disengaging going in a straight line to make sure everything is alright. Read your owners manual on shifting the transfer case.
