Default 2002 Ram 1500 Converter gone?

a buddy of mine has this model (i have an 04), he said he was driving the other day, got home, put it in reverse, went in the driveway. put it in drive to straighten out, stalls. truck stalls repeatedly when in drive but will go in reverse . does this sound like a converter problem? he said he has an engine light on, but doesn't know the code yet.... thanks for any info you can give..

Have him check the code first, then perhaps we can point you in a better direction. The torque converter comes to mind, however, not first thing. I'd first start with checking the code and cleaning the TB really well as he probably has some miles. Also post motor, miles, etc and we can help you out.

the code ended up being some HVAC code, so it is unrelated. he had just had the rear brakes done, i guess one of them had been draggin badly for some time...

If he has over 30K have him clean the TB and replace the plugs.

well after going to the dealer, it has supposedly blown a soleinoid in the transmission, and the transmission computer is also fried. they said the are not sure which one went first, causing the other to short, but after putting a new solenoid and a used computer on it, it's working good as new again...

Good to hear your friends 02 is running ok now. That seems to be a problem with the automatics. There has been several posts here to that problem. Solenoid or computer or both. Hopefully it was covered.
