Fuel system cleaning
Hey all. Looking for some advise please.
Had my 2008 5.7 to an oil change place the other day. (It has about 128,000 Kms) They recommended a fuel system cleaning. Consisted of pouring stuff in the tank, and something into the engine then rev and all black crap will be blown out. This was $110.00 service.
I have seen bottles of injector cleaners at the auto store that are reasonably priced at about $14.00.
I am not even sure if it needs it as it runs fine. Any suggestions? Thoughts? Preferences? These oil change places can be known for the 'upswell'
Thanx!

I know there is one procedure where they hang a small pressurized bottle under the hood and plumb it into your fuel system in such a way that your engine runs off that only until the bottle empties and the engine stalls. Then they reattach your fuel lines and your injectors are supposed to be cleaned.
If you run regular fuel it probably couldn't hurt. If you use premium then it may not be necessary.
No way to really know until after

I paid to have the injectors cleaned on mine. The truck ran great after the servcie was performed. 92,000 miles. I don't know about Seafoam, I always learn the cheaper ways afterwards. Baring all the nonsense about trans service, differential service, transfer case service, brakes, brake fluid flushes, and a myraid of others DIY in MY DRIVEWAY ??????????? I THINK NOT !!!!!!!! That sounds like a cheaper service. Man these trucks are expensive to maintain. Thousands have said so.
They are good trucks, but expensive to maintain properly.

Lots of guys swear by this seafoam. How do you use it? Just a bit in the oil and in the fuel? I've also heard some guys will add some directly to the intake through a vacuum line?
Anybody have any negative results? I'm always a bit suspicious of anything that claims to be a cure all.
Given the internal PVC systems on these trucks and the way the gunk builds up in the intakes it would be nice to clean that out

I agree. Maintenance on mine has been easy (too easy to pay someone else to do).

As for the oil, some say you can leave it in the crankcase all the time. I put in five ounces or so and then drive it a day or two before changing.
The PVC valve isn't internal - it's on the passenger side between the throttle body and the firewall. I clean mine at every oil change. As long as the check-ball moves, I'm happy.
