Default Transfer case - how to remove drain plug with exhaust pipe in way

The first time i changed the transfer case fluid i had my buddy do it because he worked at a dodge dealer and did it there and he said he made a tool to fit in the tight space. My 05 4.7 ram has an exhaust pipe running right in front of the lower drain plug of my transfer case and i cant fit an allen wrench or any extension ends in it to take it off. Anybody know the trick to get it off? The only thing i can think of is to cut an allen wrench short enough to fit and not hit the pipe. Any help would be great

That's what I did. Cut off an Allen wrench short enough and the. Just put a 3/8 wrench on it.

huh. They must have completely changed the exhaust design for 06+ because my Y pipe is under pass floor and from there it runs stright back to the rear. Not even close to the t-case. That or the 4.7L exhaust is completely different than the Hemi's.

My t-case is wide open. I can put my lips to the drain plug if I wanted..lol
The T-case fluid change was so easy I thought I had missed something. It's crazy how terrible design screws you up so bad.

How much room do you exactly have? A picture could be useful. I have an 03 4.7 and my transfer case was very easy to change the fluid.

My 05 5.7 only had an inch or so between the exhaust and the drain plug. Not even enough room to get an Allen wrench in. I have an aftermarket y-pipe now that allows more room

Maybe a pry bar? Maybe loosen the exhaust system from the manifolds. Maybe ask your buddy that did it last time.
