Default Time to do trans fluid in 2008 Ram 1500

hey guys, first time doing the fluid @67k, not going to flush just dropping the pan and change both filters and new fluid. Dealer recommend mopar fluid since I’m not flushing and non synthetic is in there now. Wondering what some of you guys have done. Thanks! Finding not alot of non syntheic brands out there besides cheap store brand....

If you aren't gonna flush it then use MOPAR ATF+4 and save yourself a potential headache.

ATF+4 is synthetic. I did a full flush, and used Valvolin. If you tow alot, you may want to do a full change.

Just did mine this morning... I pulled the return line and slipped a old garden hose on the end and ran that into my catch can.... started the truck and let run for about 20 seconds... this drained about quite a bit of fluid... then popped the hood and added 6 qts of fresh... waited a few minutes and then started the truck and shifted thru all the gears waiting about 10 seconds in each gear returned to park and shut her down..... then I started to pull then pan.... I had to problems... one was the exhaust crossover pipe... could not get my socket on one of the bolts, even with a swivel.. ended up using a tiny 8mm boxend wrench..... the next issues was getting the little o- ring seal out... took about 20 minutes of prodding and prying... new filters and gasket.. and ended up adding 10 qts back in.... the pan and magnet look pretty clean for a truck with 98,000 miles....I also changed the rear diff fluid while I was covered in oil... and also changed the motor oil/filter... still need to do the front diff and transfer case... but tomorrow is another day.... just make sure you have a wrench to get the 2nd bolt from the back on the drivers side under the exhaust pipe!!!

A trick to getting the old o - ring out for the filter is to take a small flat blade screw driver and a hammer. Lay the tip parallel with the outer lip of the o - ring and give it a whack. Not too hard but hard enough to cause it to push in and disform. This will make it easier to grab with your mechanics pick and pull out

well.. I went to do my transfer case and the fill plug stripped out.... I'm lucky a wise man once told me to always take out the fill plug first before the drain plug!!... time to get the welder out I guess... going to weld a stainless bolt into the stripped out nut... the drain plug is nice and loose... did my power steering this morning too!

You're gonna need more fluid. Mine took seven quarts an' I ain't got no transfer case . Make sure you get the right flat filter.

It's a messy job, but not too bad. Be careful with the pan bolts. Supposedly, they're easy to break/strip.
