Default Air Filter

ok so I am going to get a new air filter for my ram, right now all I have now is the the stock filter. First off is it even worth it i hear some people tell me that i will get 20 more HP and some people tell me I will actually loose power. I have a 05 Quadcab with a HEMI. I was just wondering what everyone thought was the best brand out there and any other suggestions would be great as well!

I'm currently looking into getting an Accel foam filter for mine rather than the cotton gause. So far I've found them for the 2002-03 5.9's but not the Hemis. I will be contacting accel shortly to see if these are possible one the newer trucks. If anyone has any opinions concerning these foam filters versus the gause, I'd love to hear it.

Either one will let more dirt through (and air). I prefer to keep as much dirt out of thier as possible. I normally go with K&N type filters, but I have decided against it on my "baby". Besides, I seriously doubt I will notice a 5hp difference between a paper and ANY type of drop-in filter.

I went with a K&N drop in on mine. I can't notice any performance increase, but I did show about .5 mpg more on the computer (I know, the computers can be off, but I've just never been interested enough to write down the mileage and get the calculator out).

The other thing I considered was that it was $40 some bucks for a filter you never have to replace vs. $10-12 every 15k or so. I agree with Doc they can let more crap thru, I just try to keep it oiled. If you get one, you do have to be careful not to over oil it. If you over oil, it can suck the excess thru the intake and gum up the MAF sensor.

I'm considering this new one from amsoil. It seems like it should filter well while being less restrictive than paper filters.

Thanks Everyone for the info. I still haven't made up my mind. I agree with Doc, but I also would like to make as much air as possible available to the engine. The higher the rpm goes, the more critical the air flow becomes. I've also been giving some thought to this Hydro Lock possibility that can happen with the way they pick up the air from the passenger side inner wheel well. Sometimes my wife and I get into never never land, and that is just not what I want to have happen. When tow trucks can be 100+ miles away, plus a possible walk to the nearest town--you get the picture.
