Default Blower not working

My blower quit working Monday morning and had been working fine since I purchased the 2003 Dodge Durango in February 2014. Brought the vehicle into the dealer, paid the $113.00 diagnostic fee to find out that the blower harness wires had melted and the whole thing will run me $406.50. They came back with a reduction, but I was floored! You gotta be kidding me! Are there any options?¿

Go to the junkyard, and grab one from there. I would also be most interested in finding out WHY the harness smoked itself.

Welcome to DF!

Wish I knew what I was doing, but I have no clue what to look for, what "junk yard" to look at or more importantly, what to do with a harness when I got one. Plus, the dealer specifically says that if I "do repairs myself" or take the vehicle to someone else, I will void the extended warranty. I feel frustrated and handcuffed! To top everything off.....today I got in the Durango and the front blower WAS working. Go figure!

If you have an extended warranty. Why is it $400. Most aftermarket warranties have a deductable.

talk to a local independent shop, tell them what the dealer found (but don't mention price) and see what they'd charge (tell them just looking for a general idea not a firm price since they didn't diagnose it) $400 sounds a lot high for a warranty repair

A new resistor block, blower motor and wiring is a lot less if you do it yourself. I would also test the motor first before buying one. Not too often they go out
