Default EGR valve on 2008 ram 1500 hemi 5.7 4x4

Does anyone know why I still get a engine code p0406 after I super cleaned the EGR valve reinstalled it disconnected battery put truck back to stock settings (superchips) I have done this once before with it working. My EGR is only a plastic peice with a spring and little shaft inside no solenoid or tube it seems to go right into the plenum
Does this mean I need a new egr???

that does not sound like your egr, the egr is on the left side of the engine compartment it bolts to the head and has a tube that bolts to the egr..

That sounds like you are describing the pcv valve... I found if I bumped the base of the egr with a small hammer, it'd close completely for a little bit... but sooner or later, its going to come back.

Advance will sell you a BWD brand with a lifetime warranty... I just installed my second EGR last month, taking advantage of the lifetime warranty.

If you're savvy with web search, you can find some online coupon codes that'll take some of the cost off..

EGR will look like this:

Yep, sounds like you cleaned the PCV valve. Replace the EGR, I've never had good luck cleaning them, might buy you a couple months without a CEL at best.

Ditto on the BWD from Advance, it's cheap enough at around $30 and it's made in USA...

I second that..I replaced one at 88K and I just replaced another at 200K.
I think it's the sensor or electronics in the egr that fail.

I had the EGR go on my 300C 5.7L V8, and I didn't even screw around with cleaning it, just replaced it. From looking around it seemed to me no one has had luck cleaning the ones on our engines.

And yup, sounds like you cleaned the PCV valve instead, again not a part that I clean, I just replace it.

Glad you got it figured out. Now tell everyone what you figured out so it will help the next person out.

Default 2008 Dodge Ram hemi false EGR code

I have been getting the P0406 code on my Dodge ram, looked it up and found out it was the EGR valve. Got it to my mechanic he ran all the tests said the EGR valve was running perfectly and doing what it was supposed to do. I also I’m getting misfires on just one side of the engine, the odd numbered cylinders. Not sure if the two are related. He’s not sure why and doesn’t want to just start replacing things in hopes one thing will suddenly be it.
anyone else have this happen?
