Ok I'm wanting to do a electric fan on my truck and I'm finding post about the ford Taurus Electric fan from 88 to 95 has more CFM's some have used this fan on their ram and seems to be big with hot rodders between the Flex-a-lite Black Magic Xtreme Series Electric Fans 183 & The Ford Taurus fan is a two speed fan 4000/4500CFM the Taurus fan has 700/1200 CFM on the Flex a Lite at 3300CFM

Ok now here's the kicker I can get The Taurus fan Brand new with a Derale 180 degree single stage fan controller For less Than 100 Bucks the flex a Lite is 350+ I'm Leaning hard towards the Taurus fan big time for that price unless someone knows something I Don't I'm Up For You Guys Opinion On This

at 4000CFM On low speed I should not need a dual stage controller

 

Personally, I run the 180 Extreme (the 183 didn't exist yet when I installed mine in 2005). But I know many people with all kinds of vehicles run the Taurus fan and have no complaints.


About the only negative to the Taurus (or Mark VIII) is the amp draw, especially at startup. But if you don't have other high amp drawers and a beefy enough alternator, then I see no reason not to take a hot deal on a Taurus fan...

I just installed the Black Magic 183 and it seems to be doing ok, haven't noticed much difference and I installed a 160 amp alternator just to make sure that there wasn't too much draw on my electrical. The 183 comes with a 30 amp fuse and the fan is also a dual stage that supposedly uses 18 amps max. I comes on at 60% and then gradually goes to 100% as more air is needed. My advice would be to keep the mechanical fan and the shroud for a while until you are sure that the electrical fan is doing what you want it to do.

 

The battery can deal with the current surge. I'd say go for the Taurus fan. Sounds like a good deal.

Make sure you get an aftermarket unit from a reputable company. Ford did patent the blade design and had a HD motor. Not all aftermarket units are comparable to Motorcraft OE quality.

Also, the 1997 Mustang GT fan has a similar patented blade design and pushes same if not more air...most people don't know this! Not 96, not 98. Only 1997

The Mark VIII pushes more air than the taurus but is a one speed and not 2 speed. It can still be varied relatively easy but a thermistor/relay combo.

I have been running a Taurus fan for years with no problems. I do run it on slow speed which is more than enough. I did use it on high for a while but it didn't get any more cool that on low.

 

Thanks weedahoe I figured low would be plenty of flow and not as loud
