Default Spark Plugs in 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 5.7 hemi (gas)

What is your take on changing them yourself? They say theres 16 plugs. Is it a night mare? anything special needed or special that needs to be done?

Remove the Hemi hat for ease of access.
Start on an easy pair of the 16 plugs - yes your were right....16 - to "get your eye in".
Then while your still fresh, use a small wooble extention bar and do the rear right side plugs next, while your still not tired.
Then methodically, move from the rear to the front, changing as you go.
Use the Champion coppers and do not over torque the plugs. Nip them up hand tight, then a full 1/4 turn works for me.
I also put anti-seize on the plug threads, but this is often frowned on by people who say you don't get the correct torque on them when tightening down.
I've NEVER had a problem and I smile every time the plugs come back out on exchanging them, after thinking of all the people who never put ant-seize on them and are now stuck in the heads lol
Some people also remove the plastic inner fenders and tackle this job from under the wheel arches. It's supposed to be easier this way.
Al.

its really easy get a pillow or seat cushion to lay on top for the last 2 on the driver side... I use 2 sockets for the spark plugs (one with out the rubber insert), 1 ext & wobble joint, magnet reach tool, spk plug antiseize, few beers, plug gap @ .45, sweat band if your out in the hot sun and some good tunes jammin.... takes about an hour 1/2

come over I'll change them for a 30 pack of ice cold beer

What Al & Tejas said. Def need a cushion or something padded for the drivers side. Heck yeah do them yourself, shop probably charge you out the a$$...lol

I also use permatex anti-sieze religously as well as white lithium grease on my boots. Last thing you want is a seized plug in your heads.

Not hard and worth doing yourself.

Thanks for the info guys. I just went to look again and on mine, there is just a little box (8 of them) with two bolts and one connector wire that snaps on the top of them. So I suppose there are two little sparkplugs inside once its opened?

How do I attach the pic of my truck to each post?

Yes the spark plug(and the spark plug wire) are down in the holes under the coil pack.Try to grab both plug boots at the same time and pull them up,so that if one is stuck it doesn't pull off of the coil pack. They go back on easily, but it will warn you if you have a stubborn one.

Yep, the little boxes are your coil packs. Make sure you label everything to make sure you re-install them in the correct cylinder.

There's "Insert Image" icon in the tool bar of your message post box. Yellow with a little mountain to the right of the adding a URL link icon.
