Default 2005 hemi replacement

Hi I have a 2005 ram 1500 with a 5.7 non-mds hemi. It is knocking really bad and time for a replacement. My question is will a newer engine or a mds engine work in there or am I limited to 02-05 rams only. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

You can get an engine rebuilt for about the same price as a low mileage used Hemi. You might want to check that out. On my 2500 when the rod bearing went they searched for engines the machanic only searched for non-MDS HEMIs. I think its possible but certainly more work.

You can use the 06+ MDS but should change out the lifters to non-MDS lifters. You might be able to get away with unplugging the electrical connection to them under the intake or disabling it via a tuner
