Default K&N Intake, Which One?

Hi all, New to the forum. Great info on this site.
I have a 2004 Ram 1500 QC Laramie 2wd, 5.7L Hemi.

I have been looking into cold air intakes. It seems to be a pretty good consesus that K&N is the way to go.
While doing some more searching, I noticed that there are 2 models available.
The Fuel Injection Performance Kit (FIPK), and the 77 series high flow intake kit.
the K&N website says the HP gains are better with the FIPK.

Any thoughts on this subject? What are the differences, and what are the positives and negatives of each?
what do you guys have? and are you happy with them? any others that are better?

Thanks in advance for your info and opinions

I can't speak for the 77 series, but i had a FIPK2 kit on a 1999 Chevy blazer it consits of heatshield new air box highflow filter and a more direct intake tube. I enjoyed it throughly but it did make excess noise under the hood, i would suggest coupling it with at a minium a free breathing exhuast. ie. glass packs/turbo flow muffler or a performance kit. Just my .02

thanks, ya, from what i can gather, the fipk kit is a newer, and better version than the 77 series

Definately, first thing i did was put on a magnaflow dual exhaust cat back system. I gotta have that rumble!
The louder the better. I have heard that the intake helps make the hemi sound more aggresive also.
I sure hope so!

Do a search on here, there's been a ton of discussion on them. I think everyone has gone with the FIPK. Everyone seems to agree that the sound is good, but it seems split on whether it helps performance at all, especially on the Hemi.

Good luck.

FIPK, all i have to say lol...

PS. it sounds great, but to reap benefits need better flowing exhaust than OEM, gotta chip mine soon, ive heard that helps alot because it alters fuel levels to work primo with the increased air flow.

Before I bought the FIPK kit from K&N, I too had noticed the 77 series. Now don't quote me on this but I think I remeber reading something on K&N's site that says this kit is not C.A.R.B certified. So if you live somewhere where there are smog regulations then there could be a problem with this kit.

the FIPK2 is C.A.R.B. certified it even comes with a certification sticker your supposed to put on near the air box.
