Overheated my 4.7 what to expect
Everywhere I read says if you overheat your 4.7 your pretty much screwed.
About a month ago I got stuck in the mud and against my better judgement proceeded to rock the truck back and fourth trying to get out.
After a few minutes of this I hear the dash ding and the check gauges light is on....and the temp gauge is right at the max.
I panicked and shut it off right away which now that I think about it may have been a bad idea?
Anyways I let it sit for 10 minutes or so and then turned it back on- it was still at about 3/4 on the gauge so I cranked the heat and let it get back to normal.
So now a month later I have seen ZERO symptoms of any damage or changes to my engine at all.
Did I get lucky or do the issues sneak up on you down the road with this engine being overheated?
Thanks!

If you did warp the heads a little, it might not show up until you're sitting at a traffic light in the middle of summer and it's 110 degrees outside. All you can do is watch the coolant level closely for a while.
Change the oil, flush the coolant, and hope for the best.
Mine about 2500 miles after just a mild (235*'ish) overheat.
