Way to determine original wheel size?
The 2003 ram 1500 4x4 slt that I have has the 20 inch wheels on it, but I am trying to find out if there is a way to determine the original wheel size. I want to buy some new rims and tires but my concern is that the 20 inch rims were added later by a previous owner and everything may be calibrated to work with a 17 inch wheel. ABS, suspension , transmission, etc. Am I spinning my wheels worrying about this?
Yeah, there's some wheel spinnin' goin' on. Wheel size is irrelevant. It's total diameter to consider. You can probably get 34" or 35" tires on it. Be aware: the larger the tire, the longer effective gear ratio, so if you have 3.55s, a larger tire will stretch that to 3.33 or lower. Smaller tires have the effect of shortening the ratio, closer to 3.80 maybe.
It will contain the "base" info, but not the specific build-out data. The door placard probably says "245/70/17", but that won't mean much.
Usually if it has a power steering cooler that was a sign it came with 20's. To be sure, email Dodge. They used to have a site where you enter your VIN and you automatically get a build sheet, but it appears to be down/gone. They will send you one. My truck has info for the 17's on the door, but has a PS cooler AND the 20's (came with 3.92's) are on the build sheet.

Are you sure???
Pretty sure that the door sticker is mandated by the Feds which requires the manufacturer to provide relevant info which includes the paint codes and vin info.
Cuz my door sticker said 275/60/20 just as it came with as part of the BigHorn package.
My Yukon says 265/70/16 which is exactly what the window sticker sayss and that was an optional tire based on tow package.
My Buick gave exact tire size too which was based on the trim package.
Both mine and my wifes new Subi has exact 17/18" tire info which is optional....etc..etc so on so forth

The "Vehicle Safety Certification Label" shows the VIN, type of vehicle, type of rear wheels (round?), "bar code", MDH, paint and trim codes and country of origin (already shown by the first digit of the VIN). It isn't intended to show specific details. The trim level might infer some other goodies, but wouldn't be definitive or detailed.
