Default Any assistance would be great to try and fix this

Hello all,

I have a 2006 Dodge ram 1500 5.7L TRX, The other day i was driving on the freeway and my truck lost everything. I mean i lost all the power to my motor and all my electrical, including my power steering my power steering even seemed to feel like it locked up. The truck did not throw any codes, I checked my battery and also my alternator with nothing wrong, knowing no codes were thrown i still attempted with no luck. has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas that would be great.

Note: i did call dodge manufacture and they told me i needed to duplicate the situation even after telling them that it could possibly cause a serious accident.

thanks again

Are you sure you lost all power?
What I mean is.. when your truck died, did the check engine light come on at the very least?
Power steering is powered by a pump connected to engine, therefore when engine stalled, you lost your steering.
My first guess... IF you have power.. IE radio still works, ect is that perhaps its the crank sensor or could be fuel pump.

I cannot really guess what is going on if you totally lost power though. Grounding issues from engine to chassis would not cause total loss of your electrical system, though it could cause your engine to stall out also. Ground strap that goes from back of both heads and drops down on passenger side at rear of engine. Usually bolted to transmission bell housing. This strap is pretty thin and corrosion and flexing breaks it.

Check all the wiring connections from the altenator to the battery and all the grounds. That means also at bottom of block ground wire going up to your battery.

Cant help but ask.. How did you get home?

Ah yeah. I have heard of PCMs that for some reason or another got moisture in them, essentially rusting circuits together. That can be cleaned and put back together, but I doubt that's your issue.

I am guessing its a ground wire of some type.

How did you get the truck home?

Yeah.
Ground issue more then likely.
I am going to bed.

I am guessing you'll find something loose and if not post back and someone else maybe can chime in.

Regardless, please post what the fix was.

Thanks

have battery Load tested.. I have seen batteries have an internal buss crack... full power then completely dead... tap side of battery with rubber hammer and retest...

a battery is 6 batteries connected together.... 6.. 2 volt cells...

otherwise.. a power cable.. or ground cable.. and/or corroded connection for same.
