Default Rear end or trani help plz

Okay guys I'm in Illinois and weather is getting cold. When in reverse my rear end whines bad. And it will do it in drive too. But after then running temp increases the whine will taper away. Also, if I hammer it wide open the truck will hit 5500 and not shift. Can anyone offer any insight please. I'm not very familiar with the driveterrain work so any help wouldnt hurt. Thanks in advance.

Drive train whines because the backlash is off and the gears are out of "mesh". When was the last time you changed the rear differential oil or transmission oil? How many miles are on it?

Very recently I changed both. Both within the past 3 months.

So narrowing it down to the rear end, any ideas where to look and solve problem?

And why does it stop when truck is at operating temps?
Also, is this causing the hesitation when putting it into drive?
And is this why I hear a loud clunk, when putting it into reverse?

Sorry for the bombardment, just wanna try and figure it out if its still saveable.

Nothing you can see to determine. With backlash, youre talking 0.001 inch increments. It needs to be measured with dial calipers

It stops when at op temp because it might be slightly off and metal expands as it heats up.

Rear diff and trans are two different issues. One has nothing to do with the other. Your engine transfers power to the trans which turns the drive shaft. If you put it in gear and it doesnt drive, chances are the trans where as its hydraulic/electrical over the read diff which is mechanical

Clunk in reverse has to do with excess play in the rear differential

Again, sounds like you have two issues and each are separate and both can be costly.

So would it be that when I'm full throttle and the truck hits 5500 and doesn't shift is part of the trani issue? I'm wondering one of them is affecting the other.

One does not affect the other and stop putting it at 5500 before you tear something else up and end up with more issues.

If you want something to race, there are lots of sports cars and bikes out there. A 6000 lb truck isnt it.

No ****, I'm not retarded. But you should be able to have it wide open and it should shift, i.e. merging on interstates.

Yes, you should. Which leads to a trans issue.

But your gear whine and driveshaft clunk are rear diff related

This makes it two separate issues

When you changed the diff fluid did you put the friction modifier in if you need it?

Three issues, you're forgetting the driver.
