Default Small Evap Leak

I cleaned the MAF, and the throttle body in my truck. Put it back together double checked it engine light came on. Pulled the negative battery terminal for 10 minutes, put back together it was fine for 20 miles. Light back on again. Had auto zone run it they say it is a P0442 Evap small leak, and a p1684 batter power disconnected. In the past I Had it smoked and a mechanic replaced a vent connector, leak detection pump, and purge solenoid.

I feel like every time I go to a "mechanic" they are just part swapers. Is there a common issue that anyone is else is having with evap leak? I can't seem to figure it out and I can't pass emissions until I do.

Thanks

when was the last time you replaced the gas cap.. same code number..
I find caps are only good for 5 to 6 years. depending number of times for fill ups and weather.

Hey Chuck, good thought. I made sure the thing was tight and the right kind of gas cap when I had this problem a few years back, but I didn't buy a new one. I will give that a whirl.

check your charcoal canister, where the 2 hoses are coming out of it. Should be just in front of the gas cap area, under the truck almost mid way.

Look under the truck and in the engine bay for any plastic hoses, most of them are for the evap system, look at the rubber ends for cracks, you can also smell around the fuel cap to see if it's leaking. There should be no fuel smell.
