Default Sick of my Trans.

I have come to the conclusion that the 4.7 is a more than adequate motor for my truck that is simply let down by the trans. Around town in D the truck is pretty much a dog...From a dead stop it runs pretty good but goes right up into the tall gears and lugs. The other day i locked it in low and manually shifted it. The truck ran like a raped ape. I hate to admit it but i may go back to Chevy next year.

I think the **** points are most likely calibrated for better fuel mileage. At what RPM were you shifting manually? I think a big part of this has to do with the rear end gears.

What fuel mileage....I get 11.5 mpg with a light foot . I have the 3.55 rear so i understand the gears effect but this trans is the worst feeling trans i have ever felt in a truck. My 4.3 chevy trans worked awesome....Shifted way better

I had some fun last week. This big fat guy drives by my house every day in his 05 Quad cab Hemi 4x4. Each time he down shift to make it sound bad. I have an 04 with the same equipment. So last week he was driving down this two lane road when I came up in back of him. We stopped at a red light. He waved at me in his back window. and counted to three. So when the light turned green he counted to three and off we went. Around 40 miles per hour I was up on his rear bumoper getting ready to push him. He waved me off and I slowed down. This week when he goes by my house he drive's normally and looks the other way. I guess I hurt his feelings.

Your crazy man, trying to race this guy from behind. Your going to be eating his rear bumper if he had to suddenly slow down. Do it like most normal people and find a two lane road or a stop light!!!![sm=boink3.gif]

11.5 MPG with 355gears. My quad cab 4.7 came with 373 gears and i struggle to get 11 MPG, with an extremely light foot. And that's only with a little highway driving thrown in, otherwise i'm getting 10 to 10.5 MPG. I specifically ordered it with the 4.7 thinking i'll get better gas mileage than the Hemi, what a dumb mistake that was.

Silver Eagle, do you have a 4.7? Otherwise I don't get the point of the story...

I have a 4.7 and wasn't ecstatic over the way it shifts when I first got it. Now that I have the superchips programmer installed, it shifts much better. As for your gas mileage, do you mostly drive city with lots of stops or is it doing that bad on the highway? I do about half city and half highway every week and the worst gas mileage I get is 14.5mpg and that includes the occasional floor-it-for-the-hell-of-it driving. Maybe you should get it checked out.

Something is wrong if you are getting that type of MPG with light throttle driving. Get that checked out.

Are you going by the MPG that shows up overhead or are you calculating it yourself? I keep track of mine and the overhead console has never been right.

My first post here as a newbee. I don't understand whats up with that kind of mpg. I have the 05 1500 w/4.7 (stock) and get around 16.8 with fairly agressive driving at 70mph or so with the needed passes to keep on keeping on. Most of my drive (85%) is on the open road. If i go light on the passes and such it has been as high as 18.4. Now i don't race around trying to set records though. I agree the tranny is a dog. Love the truck overall. Looking for tranny options myself. lol
