Default Control Arm & Ball Joint question

I was at a shop yesterday (was referred to) and they said I will need newer ball joints after while. They also said when you replace the ball joints you should also replace the Control Arms at the same time. Is this True? Also they quoted me $1203.52 for parts and labor, that seemed quite high in my opinion….what are halls thoughts and opinions on this?

They quoted me $115.69 per ball joint and $162.27 per control arms. I thought it was a bit high especially after looking online.

Upper ball joints is a control arm replacement. Lowers are press in. You can replace just the joint. Get good quality, greaseable so you don't have to replace again.

What brand would you recommend that have the nipples to grease?

What year and model truck is this? Not all are a full arm replacement and there's no need unless the old ones are damaged or need bushings. Moog or Raybestos for joints, you will need to check if they have fittings or not, often times I'll get one with a fitting and one without, same box, same supplier.

2004 1500 4wd, it seems like the only thing wrong is the boots are torn but are greased really well. The guy recommended replacing them when I get my lift put on next week but thought his price was pretty high

Napa is what I used. I believe the better quality is Napa chassis. They are rebuildable. Their precision u joints. Are good to. Like the old Spicer joints.

Unfortunately the price sounds about right. You have to tear out a lot of parts to get to the LCA (x2 for both sides) so its mostly labor. The ball joint is not serviceable on the upper control arm, so you have to replace it with the ball joint, but why replace the lower control arms when you can press out the bushings? Are the lower control arms actually bad?
