Ram rarely revs above 3000 rpm..
Hi. I have a 2004 Ram 1500 5.7l. Does anyone have the problem where your cruising at 1500 to 2000 rpm and you want to go a little faster but the more gas you give the rpm's stay the same until your floored then it jumps up to 3000rpm? This happens all the time. Is it normal? Or what's wrong? Also, my truck very rarely goes above 3000rpm after 1st gear. It will eventually go above 3000rpm but by then I'm already at 50mph and don't need to accelerate anymore. Is this normal? I have 2 check engine codes for emission issues. They are P0456 and P0440.

Fix these before throwing money at it. Check the hoses coming from your charcoal canister. If split, replace with fuel rated hoses and buy some clamps for them. That could affect the other one.
Go to an auto store like Advance Auto and buy 3 bottles of Chevron Techron, the gas additive. Run tank down to 1/8, pour 1 bottle and fill with Super Unleaded to 1/2 a tank. Repeat with the 2nd one. On the last one, run to 1/8 tank, pour in, and fill all the way up. All with Super Unleaded. On the 1st 2 cycles, drive it like a rental and floor it lots of times to blow out all the carbon buildup.
Get some non-chlorinated brake cleaner too and clean the throttle body and IAC Valve in the intake tube.
Post back your findings.

So I should fix those 2 lights? Could that cause this problem? I already bought 2 bottles of seafoam stuff. One bottle is already in there. Should I treat the seafoam like the chevron techron stuff?
Can't give advice there. I only used the Techron stuff.
Go crawl under your truck, driver's side under the fuel door, almost mid way and check those hoses first. The ones in my Durango were horse shoe shaped. Reach up and feel with your hand, as the cracks could be small. Move them around too. Once you find it and replace it, disconnect your battery and hold the 2 cable ends together for about a minute, then reconnect the battery. If you didn't fix it all the way, the light will come on again and you'll know to keep looking. How many miles?

Don't forget to dance under a full moon, holding your left ear lobe in your right hand, while standing on your right foot (left foot in the southern hemisphere).

figured the problem out.. I had to reset the TPS. my truck has had 3 other owners so the computer learned the habits of those drivers. After resetting that, I noticed better response with the throttle and possibly a little more hp
