Default EGR 404 Code

Hello had the engine light come on checked and it was PO404 EGR valve. Had this come on a couple weeks back after I cleaned the TB and I forgot to plug in the IAT. After a few days the light went out, truck is running fine then I noticed it had rough idle but no idiot light. So it popped back on yesterday so I went to part source and checked and sure enough 404 again.

I replaced the EGR valve a year or so back but I had the top end of the motor rebuilt a few months back. It was so plugged with **** that there was no oil pressure making it to top end of motor and stuff just wore out. I have heard of guys putting sea foam down the tube from the manifold back to the EGR value. Do I want to run it thru the egr valve as well or just the tube?

I took the PCV valve out and cleaned it up, it was pretty nasty looking. Just strikes me as weird this thing comes on from time to time. How do you clean a egr valve?

Cleaning may work for a short time. IMO I would clean out the tube, and replace the valve.

It's a $30.00 part that takes 15 minutes to change. Cheap insurance, in my book.

I agree its not expensive BUT I have spent $7600 dollars on this truck in 4 months fixing this that and the other. My kid is getting married in Germany in July. So what seems like chump change to you is not to me right now. If I can coax a few months out of it tell the wedding is over and I can crawl out of my financial hole I will be sure to replace.

Right on my man. Thank-you for your service to your country. My gramps was in the Princess Patricia Canadian Infantry in World war 2 and he said he became friends with a lot of Air force guys in Europe. Said they were tough as hell and good card players, but not so good at drinking. LOL Said every time a bottle of Canadian Whiskey came out there was a fight 2 hours later without fail and a bunch of rough looking air men the next day.

Hahaha... That sounds about right! Ever since I switched to straight Guinness and left the heavy stuff for the professionals, life has been a lot less painful.

We just lived in the Kaiserslautern area from 2010-2014. Can't wait to get back to Europe!
