Default Tow wiring

2006 1500

None of the lights work on whatever I am towing. Fuses are good.
Has anyone tried to fix this problem? Where should i start looking? Or in your experience should I just rewire the whole thing?

Have they ever worked? Time to get a meter out and start checking voltages.

I just installed a powered converter... 45 instead of 500 plus labor.

2006+ is electronically controlled by the TIPM. Very different from previous years.

2006 had a problem with the towing wiring. Well, not the wiring per say but the electronic amperage setting. Higher but typical loads would trip the circuit and the tipm would lock out and disable the towing BUT if I remember correctly, it had something to do with the trucks directionals and hazards as well.

There is a fuse for the tow in the tipm. I dont remember where or what for. Start there.
Bad grounds cause all kinds of failures. That would be the next place to check.
If the truck is factory tow package then the tipm fault TSB would be the next place to visit...dealer as they can and should flash for no charge.

Update,
I'm half decent with my multi-meter, but couldn't find the problem. Been to two private garages who couldn't fix it. The front driver side headlight is out and the one shop said it all was related.
Headed to the dealer now with dirtydog's info
thank you
