Hello all
I recently purchased a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab I am thinking of getting a snow plow. I have the Ram with the 4.7L V8 no Hemi automatic. Do yall think that this truck can handle it or do you think that I will just blow the tran and motor trying to snow plow?

 

i can't believe that truck would have any problems with a snow plow, but i've never tried it myself.

 

Tey do not recommend plowing with the 1500, yeah I was surprised myself. It has something to do with the torsion front suspension.[:@] It is ok with the 2500 and 3500

The 2500/3500 has heavier-duty suspension. Torsion bars are no problem. Consider getting a level kit (www.ReadyLift.com) to compensate for the extra weight. BTW, plows exact a toll out of any truck. The extra grunt needed to push snow and the sometimes sudden stops when the plow catches is a strain on engine, transmission and frame. Most people get a vehicle that is used specifically for plowing (a beater), and not necessarily a beautiful new truck.

 

I'm doing it with mine, and I have a hemi QC. I wouldn't go any bigger then a 7 1/2ft plow, and definitely not a V blade. I do know a guy using a Boss V Blade and the poor truck barely lifts it off the ground. You won't have any problem using a new 1500, just don't plow too hard. My buddy plowed with a 7 ft on his 2000 ranger for the last 5 years and he has only had to put in 1 set of ball joints. If his ranger can do it, I'm damn sure a 1500 ram can. You can always pick up a set of those suspension stops so that your truck doesn't drop too low with the plow raised.
