Default 2002 2500 5.9L V-8 AT 2WD Eng/Trans Swap Problems

Had to change eng and trans on my 02 2500 5.9L V-8/AT 2WD truck. New eng/trans is from 2000 Dodge Dakota 5.9L V-8/AT 2WD. 79K mles. Neither Eng nor trans running properly. Have tried ECM from the 2002 and from a 98 . Neither helps. Any ideas ? Will I have to get an ECM from 2000 Dodge 2500 5.9L V-8/AT 2WD ? H E L P

Can you be more specific on what you mean by running properly? examples of whats its doing.

As long as you're using the same sensors & injectors from your 02, the 360 should be pretty much identical, save for some years had a divider in the middle of the plenum and a slightly different cam and none of those should affect it in a negative way. What does affect 360 magnums of all years is the plenum gasket, new gasket & copper permatex will fix it, save the aluminum replacement plenum plate money on other stuff like beer & steak. Cracked heads between the valve seats are a common problem on pretty much ALL magnum heads and can be a big problem if the engine overheated to a severe state but most of the time the engine can have cracked heads and you'll never know it unless you pull the heads, most of these magnums can go north of 300,000 miles even with cracked heads and still run great, only pull the heads once you exhaust EVERY OTHER possibility.

Make sure all your grounds are connected properly, the secondary small ground off the negative battery terminal is notorious for causing small gremlins like rough running engines & whacky operation of gauges & electronics.
