Master Cylinder fitting for front lines

Master Cylinder fitting for front lines
I have an 02 Ram 1500 QCLB 4wd w 5.9.
I am finishing up a lot of front end work, and replacing the brake line from the master cylinder to the ABS unit in the engine compartment, and the line from the master to the front brake junction line on the drivers side. I believe the truck has ABS for the rear brakes only, no wheel sensors on front and the brake lines for the front do not go to the ABS unit mounted on top of the inner fender well.
My question is about what looks to be like a fitting adapter, but it is not hollow inside. I believe it is some sort or proportioning valve for the front brakes. It threads first into the master, then the brake line that comes up to the master from the front brakes threads into it.
Can anyone explain what this fitting or valve is and how it works?
