Default Dip stick error?

I just changed the oil on my new truck (05 Hemi), and after adding the correct amount of oil (7 quarts according to the manual), my dipstick reads 1/2 quart low. Anyone else have this problem?

Is that cold or after runing the engine for a while.

Just make absolutely sure it was on level ground and that you are getting a correct reading. Assuming that, just add what you need and keep an eye on it.

It was after running for less than a minute to fill the filter. I left plenty of time for the oil to fill back into the pan. I am using a mobile 1 filter, but I think it is the same size.

Let it drain back over night and check it in the morning. I'd venture to wager it will be closer to the full mark then.

While I understand your thought process it is not going to get 1/2 a quart. New clean engine will drain very fast, if it took over night to make up a 1/2 quart I would need a 100qt pan to run the truck as the oil would never make it back to the pan in time.

It has to be a filter difference or dip stick issue or the capcity is a little more than 7 qts, which I doubt.

It's not a problem, I wouldn't add more than 7 quarts. osteodoc08 is correct, it will be much closer to the fill line after sitting over night. 1/2 quart is not much oil and it will take quite a while for every drop to drain from all the internal components that have been coated.

Check it in the morning. I'm curious now.

Wait overnight. If it don't read full, add the 1/2 court. Is the Hemi pan a 7 qt pan? That means it needs 7 1/2 (7 in the pan, 1/2 in filte). I have an 8 qt on my Chevelle and need 8.5. Same way on all the cars I have ever changed oil on.
