Turbo a 4.7

Turbo will not be cheap. Any significant gains in hp will not be cheap. You might as well forget it if your not willing to dump a few thousand into it. You can't just slap a cheap eBay turbo in it and drive. It's much more complicated to go FI. A whole lot more involved. Not to say it can't be done at all but definitely can't be done cheap.
Depending on how cheap you mean, a tuner, less restrictive exhaust and intake will add a few extra ponies.
You can do some other things like electric fan conversion, bored throttle body, lower gears, etc. but from my experience, slapping a turbo on a vehicle not set up from the factory for FI is not a good idea unless you can answer yes these questions:
-Do I have enough money or a good job?
-Do I have the time?
-Do I have the proper tools?
-Can I do most of the work myself; will I have to employ someone, or both?
-Do my goals warrant an engine rebuild? (In most cases, the answer is “yes”.)
-Do I have a garage so I’m not working in the cold or rain?
-Do I have a second vehicle available when my truck is down or up on blocks?
-Do I have a good grasp of tuning an OBD 2 vehicle with a piggyback, ECUFlash, or a stand-alone unit?
-Am I prepared to upgrade other important area of my truck, such as cooling, transmission, exhaust and brakes?
-Have I done my research using the internet/forums as a resource?
-Do I have the service manuals?
If you find you are answering “NO” to some of these questions, you will discover the “pain” if you proceed. Knowledge is the key. Worth saying again: I wouldn’t attempt FI the 4.7 without a second car.

If you want to know the types of things you can do to make the 4.7 quicker look at my sig i have most of them. The 4.7 is not a cheap engine to work on. However ill be starting a turbo build on my 4.7 prob. over the summer like others have said it takes alot to do it. there are no bolt on kits there are lots of things people don't think of that make the difference between having it crank and it running and working right.
things to think about:
injectors must be replaces
4 bar map sensor
fuel pump
custom tuner and then the cost of someone one to tune it this part here is close 1k
factory rod and pistons are not that great
manifold for the turbo
the turbo it's self
oil feed for the turbo
wastegate
BOV
and more......
like the old saying goes:
Fast, cheap, reliable - you only get to choose two
So like ikeaton said you have to understand alot goes into it you better have 8-10k ready if you are going to try and get someone to do it for you if you dont have the skills yourself.
