Default Spark Plugs

Hi, I read through the thread under DIY 'spark plug" and found that a lot of the posters were hemis and I was searching for someone's experience with the 4.7 spark plug change and what was used.
As I were reading again most were hemi's I read one post where someone mentioned to just hand tighten them, my question to this is, should they? and if so, is it for the upper and or lower banks?? I know the heads are aluminum meaning uppers under the coils? and not the lowers coz they are exhaust

Im still trying to learn which plugs are good/better for the 4.7 70k not sure if they were changed or not.. it runs really smooth at this point, but I don't want to take any chances. Im getting about 20mpg hywy and 16 in town.

any help would be much appreciated

go with the specs. It was once said to me that anything that is machined has a spec for torqing. Torque it to spec.

Does your truck have a Hemi?

No he has a 4.7. Look in the manual (they are available for download on the site), there is a specific torque spec for your plugs.

I tried downloading the Service Manual and wasn't able to not sure why this is though. I will check it out again today though.
I was also referring to type of plugs used..I have reads that the champions in some trucks worked great for the hemi's and some not so good, but I have yet to have someone weigh in on the 4.7 type of plugs and their experience. I have looked at 3 type of plugs I have also have looked at champions too. Since I just got this truck not sure what in there how long they been in there.

On my bike work I don't use anything but NGK but, my 08 4.7L had bosch upper and lower and I went back in with the same plug because it ran great before the plugs started getting worn and i wasn't sure about the other manufacturers plugs in this engine. So far so good

If you're a experienced mechanic you know by feel what torque things need to be and what it takes to break bolts and strip threads and proper torque sequence which is almost more important than torqueing the bolts to exact spec. If you're doing head bolts, rocker shafts or main bearings use a torque wrench, if you're completely new to mechanical work a torque wrench is not a bad idea, and just remember...add 5 ft lbs to every extension on the wrench ;-)

I own a 2005 4.7 I run autolites 3922 plugs because of nitrous, they are 2 steps cooler than the stock champions, for your truck keep the factory bosh plugs, as for torque, the recommendations are, snug plug until tight, then only go 1/4 turn more. that's it, do not muscle it, also your plugs are different : This engine uses TWO DIFFERENT types of spark plugs. A total of 16 plugs are used. The plugs are mounted in two rows (banks). The upper row (5) is used on the intake valve side of the cylinder head. The lower row (6) is used on the exhaust valve side of the cylinder head. The upper row (5) uses Bosch Nickel Yttrium plugs. The lower row (6) uses Bosch Iridium plugs. DO NOT INTERCHANGE THESE PLUGS. hope this helps,
