Catastrophic bearing failure.
New to the forum and need help. I took my 2002 2wd 3500 in for tires. They called and made me a great deal on a rear axle brake job, it was snowing and crappy outside so I jumped on it (new pads and rotors). 320 miles later the LR caliper started squeeling. I felt it and it was red hot. Took it apart, pulled the axle to check the ebrake and the bearings fell out as black dust! The nut holding everything in is fused in place. Dry powder with not an ounce of oil. How could the bearings be dry and disintegrated 320 miles after the brake job unless something was put back together incorrectly? One friend said that the bearings are lubed via diff oil that comes in on the axle but that you have to fill the hub with oil when replacing the bearings. To top it off I was told the parts aren't made anymore. Any help would make my day. Thanks in advance.
You can easily get replacement parts.
yes the axle bearings are oiled with the oil in the differential and are easy to replace (imo).
what and why things went wrong is hard to say but if I only did 3w0 miles and had a failure after they replaced everything, I would be on the phone with that shop.

Well I'm going to bring the truck home tomorrow. Once I get it torn down I'll know for sure but for now I know I'll need;
Spindle, bearings, locking nut, probably an axle shaft as it was scored and dis colored.
