You can use any cleaner that won't leave a residue. Carb cleaner and Brake cleaner are kind of universal to me for prepping surfaces, wipe clean with a blue paper shop towel and throw a bead of permatex on the diff surface and spread it out with your finger, then throw the cover on. You really don't need a torque wrench to do the cover, tighten the cover bolts in an X pattern in a 2 step process, first snug in an x pattern to make sure the cover doesn't warp and then go over all the bolts again with a bit more than snug to put final torque on them, they don't need to be very tight just put 1/2 turn past snug on em and once that's done and the permatex sets that cover will never come off, leave the torque wrench in the tool box.

Once the cover is on, give it like 20 minutes for the perm to set up somewhat and then throw the gear lube in and you'll be all set, you can probably get away with filling it up right away with gear lube, but I like to let the permatex set a bit just for piece of mind before lube goes in, so after you get the cover on, clean up your area and put your tools away and by that time it should be ready to fill. Fill it up to the filler hole. It should be like 2 and a half quarts to fill it up to the filler hole. If you have a limited slip diff make sure to use 8oz of friction modifier, if not, just get the lucas 85/90 gear lube autozone sells or Wal Marts gear lube which is the cheapest lube you can get for around $4.50 a quart, I've had good luck with this stuff as well, I just use Lucas sometimes just to feel productive.
