1500 5.7 Transmission won't engage any gear
Drove my 2006 Ram 1500 5.7 4WD yesterday and had no problem with it at all. Go out to leave for work this morning and the truck won't shift into any gear. I had to push it to the side of the street right beside the driveway because I couldn't get it to move at all. After selecting the gear on the shifter, the RPMs will increase and the engine revs up but it just won't move. I tried to get it back into the driveway tonight and after putting it in reverse, it revved up and finally moved a few feet and then went out of gear again. It kept engaging for a few feet and then back out of gear again. It's finally back in the driveway and sitting idle until I figure out what's wrong with it. I've done some research but still not sure what the problem is. It's not throwing any codes or any lights either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

82,000 miles. Can't check fluid level accurately because it's parked on a slope but the fluid looks good and doesn't smell burnt or anything. To my knowledge there hasn't been any transmission services performed on the truck(I'm not the first owner). I'm hoping it may just need a quick filter and fluid change?
Be sure to keep us posted on this, Leitzman. Hopefully a filter and fluid change is all it needs, but if it does turn out to be something more and you'd like to take it to a dealership, I'd be happy to assist in scheduling an appointment if you reach out to me through here.
So here's the update since I last posted. A couple days after I posted the engine light finally came on and threw the codes for transmission fault and transmission fluid pressure switch. I was lucky enough to have a warm day to change the filters and fluid and, low and behold, the thing ran great afterwards! Unbelievable! Not to mention the engine light went off by itself just the other day! 👍👏
