Default 02 Dodge Ram 1500 dead every day

Hey everyone, my truck is currently stuck at work and my buddy had to take me home in his Nissan 😔 I bought it a year ago and recently it has been dead almost every single morning. I replaced the battery and had the alternator tested. The test came back fine for the charging system. When I go out to the truck the little red light on the dash is blinking and nothing else is on. The manual says it's the security light. I can jump the truck easily and the alternator charges it. Couldn't get home though because the battery died completely and messed with the ECU and it would not idle correctly. Just trying to figure out what is going on so I can start my truck like a normal person and get to work. Also the radio has been working on and off since this started. And if I go out and unlock the truck the headlights will flash on and off like an alarm is going off until I start it.

You might go to the shop/dealer to scan the system.Voltage regulator is in the computer.to many little things with the electrical system for guesswork.Just a thought.

Have you checked to see if something is drawing off the battery when it's off? Check for lights that you can't normally see, like the under hood, glove, console, any compartments, etc. Possibly the security system may have a problem that can be drawing too much current. Just a guess on that one.

I had an issue on my 02 Ram Van 1500 with the radio going off and on. Also affected at the same time was the power windows/locks, turn signals, and dash gauges. It turned out to be the ignition switch, not the ignition key lock portion. Some times I could get it to work if I fumbled around with the key while the engine was running by slightly turning the key back and forth like I was starting or shutting down the engine. Just make slight movements back and forth. After I replaced the switch, the problem went away.
I don't have a security system on my van like yours. Have you tried to open the driver door with the key in the door lock and not the key fob? I had a GM car that used the key to disarm and arm the security system. That may shut off the flashing light event.

I'm assuming that the battery and alternator are up to par.

These are a few things that may have been overlooked.

Keep us updated on what you checked and what the cause is.

Yeah mine has the system where the key has a chip in it to allow it to be used. I am taking it to have a diagnostic draw test done tomorrow so hopefully that figures it out. I do believe it is the security system though, it is the only thing I can think of that would kill the battery in less than three hours other than the lights and such that I can see aren't on.

I wonder if you can pull a fuse or circuit breaker on the security system and see if that works.

Well we had a draw test done and it turned out to be the cigarette lighter in the center console was drawing a huge amount of power when the vehicle was off. It was a crossed wire. Fixed it and all is working well again!!
