Default Hour meter?

Does my 04 1500 have an hour meter? I think I read in the owners manual that it will display in the odometer window. Is this true? What button to press to get it to pop up? I thought hour meters were just for diesels. Thanks everyone, just curious. --Kevin

I think that it will show it when you do the diagnostics.

If you have an overhead console it should show up there.

When I picked up my 03 the salesman showed me how to get it to come up in the odometer window but I can't remember how to do it.

I found this in my Ram manual. It's for an 03 but maybe it will work for you.

- Engine Hours Display Toggling - When the trip odometer reset switch button is pressed and held
for longer than about six seconds with the ignition switch in the On position and the engine speed
message from the PCM is zero, the trip odometer information will be momentarily displayed, then
the engine hours information will be displayed. The VFD must be displaying the odometer
information when the trip odometer reset switch button is pressed in order to toggle to the engine
hours display. The engine hours will remain displayed for about thirty seconds, until the engine
speed message is greater than zero, or until the ignition switch is turned to the Off position,
whichever occurs first.

Basically it is saying that with the key on and the odometer showing you can press the the trip
reset button for about 6 seconds and then the hours should be displayed.

Thanks Jerry. The one in the over head console is a trip meter that has been re-set multiple times by now. Thanks all--Kevin

Good info...I thought I'd read my manual pretty well, but I missed that.

Just curiious, other than just for pure info, what's the point of knowing the hours since service, mileage, trade value, etc is equated in miles, or are you just wanting a frame of reference to farm equipment, earth movers, etc that use hours due to no odometers?

Sounds to me that ole Dodge wants to know about those construction worker supervisiors that sit in there truck all day with em running and the a/c and radio going....just a thought.

Guess if they only got 13k miles on it and its missing or needing some waranty repair and the hour meter shows 2050 hours...do the math on that one...haha.

apparently I drive at an average of about 40 MPH even if you include all those hours of idling in the driveway and sitting in traffic.
