Default Dodge 46re tranny issues, no reverse and had shifting issues

My 02 dodge 5.9 with the 46re tranny is acting up. It's got no reverse but the band was way to loose. I tightened that up to correct specs. But I know it needs more. It still has the shifting issues. After a while of driving it will act up and not shift right.

When was it's last service? May need a trip to a transmission shop, for some diagnostic.

You could try a quarter to half turn more to see if that helps or stays the same. Filter change and new ATF+4 may help smooth that out.

I believe theres two band adjusters, a reverse band and a forward band. Never had to adjust them on my 97 Ram with the 46RE but it did have issues that worked themselves out after 30 miles one time.

Also check the check ball valve on the cooler return line, its about 10 inches from the radiator on the passengers side. Those like to stick and not circulate the fluid, its the cause of many poor Dodge transmissions biting the dust early when theres actually nothing wrong with the trans design.

I adjusted the reverse band to correct specs it was way to lose, and I have all new solenoids and filters on the way. There not that Much so there gonna be replaced anyways. And I will check the valve. Thanks!

Not a prob.

Regarding the check ball valve, if it does not move or seems sloppy, many guys will just drill them out. If you do that flush the line so the shavings do not enter the trans. The only down side is that once in a while it may take a second or two for the trans to respond on cold days/first start of the day, as to give the pump time to circulate fluid that's returned to the transmission due to no check valve.

Sounds good. Gonna do that and put the new solenoids and springs in tomorrow and oil change, thanks again
