Default Front Drive shaft broke, stuck on the road...

I have an 07 Mega Cab 5.9l Diesel, 4x4.... loud squeaking while driving, vibration at highways speeds and I am on the road. Just looked underneath and the front drive shaft at the U Joints has got an incredible amount of play. I dont want to have it towed (middle of no where)... Can I take the front drive shaft off and drive it safely? Will it hurt anything to drive it with the front driveshaft off? I dont want to jack the transfer case up driving with it all loose? Please help! Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, I have pulled them on gas toyotas but not on a larger truck. I wasnt sure as I had to bang like hell to get the rear to seperate from the transfer case. I appreciate the reply. Thanks again.
