HEMI OIL? WHAT OIL TO RUN IN A 2005 HEMI? HELP PLEASE!
WHAT OIL TO PUT IN MY TRUCK?? I am curious to know what everyone is running in their trucks, brand and liquidity. I have a 2005 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with a hemi. It has 1000 miles on it, and won’t be a daily driver. The truck is mainly a project truck. I live in Missouri, very cold winters, and very hot summers. I have read and read posts, but is there statistics or recommendations for what type of oil to run in the 5.7L Hemi, 10W30 10W40 5W40? What may be the benefits of each, or the recommended oil? The truck has a Superchip Flashpaq, Magnaflow exhaust, and an AEM intake. Those are currently the only performance modifications. I am looking forward to some good information on this. Thanks everyone!

I think the 2005 call for 5w20, but just check your owners manual.
I currently have 7qts of Castrol Syntec Blend 5w/30. I prefer to use Mobil 1, but my pocket book doesn't allow me to do so. I think I'll switch over at 15K, which is coming up soon, so that I can just go 5K miles in between changes. Keeps the math simple.

I dont have much knowlege of oil. I have always had mine changed by the local oil guys. I now have a new truck, and care what oil goes into it. So these oils mentioned are they synthetic? Is all mobil and castrol synthetic? Or do they have non-synthetic as well??
What exactly is the difference between a synthetic and non? THanks guys.

I'd definately change to synthetic at some point. There's plenty of documentation that it runs cleaner and with less wear than regular. There's been some debate on here about when the right time is. Some guys like to go thru a break in period first. I switched to Mobil1 at 6k only because I bought a demo with 3k on it, and with a new change. I don't think it matters much.
The most common syn is Mobil 1. If you don't know oil much, make sure you get Mobil1--Mobil makes other non-syn oils that look similar on the shelf. Castrol SynTech is probably the next most popular it seems. Amsoil makes a good oil, but it's tougher to find. Use the viscosity recommended in your manual. I agree with Doc that I think the 05's went to 5w20, prior to that they used 5w30. You run the risk of having potential warranty probs if something goes wrong internally, the dealer may try to claim it's caused by the wrong vis oil, whether it's legit or not.

Yeah, I'd stick with the 5w20 as recommended. My local oil change place doesn't have M1 5w20, so I went with dino oil the first time around. I'm definitely putting Mobil 1 in at 6k, though.

THanks for your help. I think I will go with mobil 1 or amsoil. Where can amsoil be purchased?
My truck has 1,000 miles now. I think I am going to change the oil today. Is it ok to go ahead and put a synthetic in it already, since it only has 1,000 miles?
Once you put a synthetic oil in, do you always have to put it in. Say when I sell it, or even if I keep it and at 50,000 miles I put a regular oil in rather than a synthetic. IS there an issue or problem switching back and forth? THanks.

there was a similar post a couple days ago about what oil. I think Mobil 1 seems to be what most like to use, I also saw on Trucks! (tv show) they used the Royal Purple, and did an actuale dyno test on it, and concluded it got better mpg, and highly recomended it,,,
