Default 1500 will crank but not start

My used 1500 will crank but not start. Happened a couple of weeks ago too. Got a fuel pressure gauge and the pressure was there and it started right up after connecting it to the valve. Worked fine until this afternoon.

Again it wouldn't start. Tried the gauge again and no pressure this time. Probably the fuel pump. Since I don't have the equipment to raise the truck and drop the tank to replace pump and filter, I had it towed to my local garage.

Anybody have an idea the cost to replace the fuel pump? Do they need to empty the tank? Probably and it is filled too.

You can get pump assemblies on ebay for $41.50. DO NOT SPEND the $300 most places ask. I've used ebay supplied Premium Performance pumps for the last 10 years with no failures in GM's, Fords, & Mopars. Its 2016 we've mastered electric pumps for the most part and they have a year warranty optional for an additional $6

My $20 Neon fuel pump is going on 4 years strong and 100,000 miles later lol Even if it went out yearly, it would still be worth it.

As for emptying the fuel, you can do it yourself, go to Harbor Freight or a hardware store or even Wal Mart & get some gas cans and a hand pump to empty the tank. It doesn't need to be completely empty, but its easier to manage & control the lighter the tank is. Another top tip is to filter the fuel as you dump it into the gas cans.

Hey Pete, what year is your truck?
Have you checked to see if there's voltage to power the pump? I wouldn't replace it without knowing.
That's like replacing your refrigerator if the light doesn't work.
Get a test light and/or a meter and see if there's voltage.
We can tell you where to check and what to look for.
There is so much valuable information on this forum for free.
It could save you hundreds at least.

2005, relay was good. I had it at the mechanics already. He also check rekay, it would not start and he banged on the gas tank and it started. He couldn't get the bolts off the tank straps, said they were frozen and penetrating spray didn't help. Ended up taking the bed off and I will get it back tomorrow. He is replacing the pump, sending unit and filter. I wouldn't have been able to get the bed off nor would I have had the time. Beautiful weather to work on the truck but my job wouldn't let me do it and it is supposed to rain this weekend. Live and learn.

Got the truck back. New assembly installed. Mechanic had to raise the bed. Book said 2.5 hours labor and that was it. With tax, it came out to $490. I was expecting $700.

That's cheap. Nicely done.
