New exhaust

Default New exhaust

I want to put a new exhaust on my 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 that does not have a catalytic converter on it. Can I remove the catalytic converter without causing any problems?

It will stink. It will trigger the check engine light. It will fail inspection (if you have them). It will affect the resale value. Other than that? No, it won't cause any problems.

Thank you for your response. I do not have inspections on my vehicle. How do I get the engine light not to come on? Is there a program available for the truck stop that?

There is some kind of non-fouler trick you can do. Not sure how it works, never done it. Hopefully someone will chime in. your basically tricking the downstream sensor into thinking the converter is still there. Upstream sensor should not be an issue since it measures exhaust gasses before the converter. It's only the downstream one you need to worry about setting off the CEL.


I'm by no means a tree hugger, but I just don't see the point or understand why people want to remove pollution controls from vehicles.

With how many people out there who put aftermarket exhaust on their truck, it won't affect it a single penny. Plus if you ever check craigslist theres $50-$100 full stock exhausts on there all day long.

Basically its like a fitting that the O2 sensor goes into, it screws into the o2 bung, then the o2 sensor screws into that, it allows just enough exhaust to reach the o2 sensor as to not trigger a code. It basically in short shields the o2 from seeing the full blast of raw emissions. You can get them at Auto Zone and O'Reillys for like $5-$10. Think of it as a o2 sensor condom.
