Default Opinions on 2007 Ram 1500

I'm looking at possibly purchasing a 2007 Ram. I found one locally that seems to be fairly priced for the mileage and age. My main concern is that it has the 4.7L v8 flex fuel motor. I have the 4.7 in my regular cab Dakota right now and its powerful enough for that but how does that motor do in the ram? Do I have to run flex fuel or is that just an option? Are there any power differences between the 4.7 in my dakota and the ram I'm thinkimg about looking at. Anything else to look for? I read the sticky about the 3rd gen common problems. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Heres the link to the truck. http://www.rnrautos.com/mobile/mdetails.aspx?VID=3049103

IMO, if you are going to get a Ram, get one with a Hemi in it. Not hating the 4.7, I had one in my Dakota, but always wanted a Hemi.

Hi, about 5 months ago I bought a used 2007 RAM 4X4, 4.7 V8,4WD with 79,000 miles. Had been used in a business, so some wear issues, but seems to run in terms of the engine and transmission, so that much is good.

I have had several trucks over well, several decades from Ford to Chevy and now Dodge. Even had the 7.3 Powerstroke in 1995. Am not a Ram expert by any means.

What I have noticed is while the 4.7 runs fine, my truck is usually empty or only lawn trash, household stuff in it. I am not hauling rock or anything like that. It's fine on the power - oh yes I am in flatland country for the most part. Transmission seems fine, had that serviced, but does shift out of overdrive without much pushing on the pedal, which doesn't make any sense to me for that amount of push, but it seems to be doing what it should.

So why did I write a novel and not answer your question, well at best running around with much but not all highway driving, I am getting 13MPG, maybe 14 if I account for the dealer going up one size to 265's from 245's on tires. Am sure if I took a highway only trip it might do better, but for that low of mileage look for something with the 5.7 as others have said. Someone else can comment on the Multiple Displacement feature and if that really helps. But the Hemi makes much more power and I just can't believe that you would go lower than 12/13 MPG in town, so why bother with the 4.7? I had an older Silverado 3/4 ton with the 6.0, and that was a 12MPG in town. Now the issue with that one is on the highway, lucky to get 14 with the 4.10 gears.

Hope some of this helps, my truck seems fine so if what you want is a good price point, maybe ok. I too have heard the 4.7 stories and radiator issues, but nothing has happened to me in the first 5 months at 79,000 miles.

Thanks for the replys. I called today to schedule an appointment to look at the truck and it's been sold. Must of been a good price. I will continue hunting around for one but am not in any hurry. I'm still debating on if I'm going to trade in the dakota, sell it my self, or keep it for a winter beater when the time comes. It's weird how you can get attached to a vehicle.
