Another Gauge Cluster Problem...
Hi all,
I have a 2005 Dodge Ram Quadcab 4.7L Auto with ~232k miles. Intermittently, the Oil Pressure, Water Temp, and Speedometer will quit working. Eventually, the gauges will start working again. When the gauges quit, I am NOT getting any warning lights, or check engine light and all other electrical systems appear to be working normally. If I turn off the truck and start it back up, the gauges work fine.
During the failure, the needles will quiver and die. When they begin working, the oil pressure gauge will begin quivering and go up to normal, then the water temp gauge will do the same thing, then the speedometer will begin working. Sometimes the oil and water temp gauge will begin working at the same time (after quivering first). By watching the needles, it reminds me of a loose connection being wiggled. However, no bumps or aggressive maneuvers occur prior to the failure, or prior to the gauges working again.
When the gauge cluster self test is performed, all gauges and warning lights work. After the test is performed the odometer will read "CCode 00 00" which I assume means no codes were found.
The only other problem is with the radio. The volume **** doesn't work very well (it has to be turned multiple times to get the volume to change, and sometime multiple revolutions to make the volume change even by 1 number). Also, the lights for the #3,4 and 5 presents are not working (have not been working for 3-5months). The volume problem has also been developing for 6-9months or more and is getting worse.
Not sure if I have 1 cause and effect problem, or if there are 2 separate problems. I have done multiple searches, both on here and in Google, but cannot find threads that are specifically relevant. I have found multiple threads for the gauge cluster dying and "NO BUS" message, but I am NOT getting the "No BUS" message. Actually I'm not getting any messages.
Thanks in advance,
David
