Check Gauges, Locked Steering, Low Battery
Hi, I'm new to this so hopefully I'm doing this right. I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 which was given a new engine about half a year ago due to the previous engine failing. About 2 months ago I began to hear this sound that mimicked paper flapping in the wind every time I pressed the gas pedal. Today, after about 10 minutes driving, I began to hear a high pitched yet muffled noise coming from the front of the truck, and then I realized that the steering wheel became extremely difficult to move left and right. After, the Check Gauges light came up including a signal sound. The engine began to heat up and I turned it off. I let it cool off for a bit and I turned it back on and it started, but the steering wheel was still locked. The battery level was also on L. After letting it cool off even more the truck starts off fine but still has the steering locked and Battery level on L, but no check gauges light on. Help :c
What should I check? I'm wondering if the symptoms sound familiar to anyone that's why I posted this. I looked under the truck and noticed a thin line hanging as if it ripped and I ended up with the conclusion that it might be the Serpentine belt but this line is not a full belt, its like a chord hanging off the middle of the entire front of the truck
Yeah, open the hood and perform a thorough visual inspection. You have the truck in front of you, we don't. Take some pictures or video. Find out what it is hanging down. Verify your conclusion with hard evidence.
